In Defence of Glenn Beck. Monday, Oct 5 2009

The Core of this argument is a response to studenlawyer who posted a thoughtful youtube video because I don’t waste my time with the truly bigoted ones. I can’t defend rush, but I have listened to Beck for 4 years as an insider. I know what he said, I remember the context of what he said when he makes controversial remarks.
First, he became Mormon when he was 18. Wikipedia had that one wrong. Second, his mother committed suicide and that Beck was an alcoholic. True. Third that he has ADD and flunked or funked (drug use) out of Yale collage. True. Maybe the why is fuzzy?
And the point, the volley, the time on target barrage: This makes him uneducated and unworthy of Americas time to pay attention. This also makes him unstable.
Rebuttal: You ever watch his conversion story. This man has a classical education as a self taught man in philosophy. And look at him. He is well adjusted. He has admited all of his wrongs. Spent time on why they were wrong and has completely did a 180.

Um, How bout an argument that does not have a basis in ad homine attacks. Like Beck uses arguments that he looked up from the reputable guys that founded this nation. You know his facts that he can footnote are accurate. World Image? Really. As for Obama. He has a good image because of benefit of the doubt. He hasn’t done anything except Stimulus that he payed for by selling bonds and then bying them back with Federal Reserve printed money. But to be fair the Fed made that decision. As for healthcare there are real arguments to be made that the government can’t do it cheaper and better. If you look at this as a movement away from limited government or a PR campaign by “early 20 century progressive” idealists, then what did they believe. A variant on Socialism, which the Communists didn’t like because it was a variant of their system, which Hitler disagreed with so he came up with his own socialist party the Nazi’s.
All of these variants are bad. FDR’s socialism has consentrated power in the elites of this country. People like Bush and Obama and Clinton, and the Kennedy’s. The point of the right is that this power should be more localized. Small corporations and governments are less prone to abuse and to making system wide problems.
